Turning 4GL application services into Web services
Figure 1–1 shows the basic Progress 4GL Web services architecture, indicating how the WSA provides the SOAP-to-business interface gateway for an application service provided by the AppServer.

In this figure, the standard set of components required for Web services in general appear with gray shading, and those required for Progress 4GL Web services appear with darker gray shading. Otherwise, the Progress 4GL Web services architecture provides features that are virtually identical to any other Web services architecture in the industry.
OpenEdge supports these features with the components of the Web service tools for all phases of Web service development, deployment, and management:
